Family Genes Workshop

Would you like to have your own website to store your family tree safely? Family Genes can do that for you. Family Genes is an AFHS project for the preservation of members’ family tree studies. Using a web-based application, known as TNG, our members can upload, display and archive their family information. Whether you are just beginning or struggling to figure out how to use Family Genes, this workshop will help you.

DATE:   Saturday, November 30, 2019

TIME:   9:00 a.m. to noon

COST:   $15 (coffee and tea provided)

This is a hands-on workshop. Please bring your research and laptop or other device with you. (The AFHS library has a limited number of computers for use.) Jim Benedict and Don Duncan will introduce you to the Family Genes website, then participants will have an opportunity to learn how to enter their own information. Volunteers will be available to help you!

For those who do not have their own TNG application, you can still join in and learn about the features of this website version of your family tree.  If you decide you want to start using TNG, the software subscription licence can be purchased at the meeting.  The Society is permitted to sell you the one-time licence fee of $40.00.

Following the Trail

Are you getting every bit of information from documents you find? Do you know where to look next? The research cycle includes finding a record with your ancestor on it, fully analyzing that record, and deciding where to search next. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn techniques to gather all the information from a document and tips on where to look for the next record.
