The Alberta Family Histories Society, based in Calgary Alberta, is a non-profit organization. Formed in 1980, its goal is to promote and encourage family genealogical research, particularly where it pertains to Alberta history and records.

Here are some fast-track key pages on our site that will help the newcomer get acquainted with what the AFHS and its website have to offer:

  • General information
  • Membership - a long list of reasons why you would benefit from joining
  • When's the next meeting? We have meetings for all kinds of specialized interests. Consult our Calendar for the complete listing. See also FamilyRoots.
  • Contact Us - volunteers, board members, Special Interest Group leaders, etc.
  • Dist-Gen - a free listserv to ask/answer questions and talk about family history

Apart from all the above, we are happy to say that we maintain a close and co-operative relationship with the Family History Center of the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS), the Alberta Genealogical Society, and other organizations. We're always interested in exchanging information and ideas.

Our Canadian Genealogical Projects Registry is an unparalelled tool (we won a major award for that work).

Visitors are welcome to drop in on a meeting and see how our services and programs fit their needs.
