1997: Deaths - Mu
MUELLER - Mr. Helmut Mueller went
to be with his Lord Jesus on Friday, June 27, 1997 at the age of 60 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son Hal, his wife Julie, and grandson
Matthew Dean, all of Red Deer; his ex-wife Elona of Calgary; his brother
Hugo (Erika) of Bowden; his father Robert; brothers, Adolf, Gerhard (Uschi);
sister Hilde (Klaus), all of Germany. He was predeceased by his mother Helene,
and brother Albert, also of Germany. Born in Hoffnungstal, Bessarabien,
Rumania on September 10, 1936, he came to Canada in 1958. He was self-employed
as a drywall contractor for many years as well as working as a Realtor and
for the C.P.R. He was a loving, giving man, always there for his family
and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at Salem Evangelical Missionary
Church, 235 - 8A Street N.E., Calgary, AB, Saturday, July 5, 1997 at 1:00
p.m., with Pastor Colin Meikle officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends
wish, a donation in Helmut's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society,

MUGLER - Mr. William (Bill) F. Mugler of Calgary, passed away peacefully
at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital on Sunday, November 23, 1997 at
the age of 88 years. Bill was born in Perry, Oklahoma, U.S.A. on April
20, 1909. He spent his early years in the southern states, moving to Calgary
in 1949. Bill spent his working life in the oil and gas industry, retiring
from Pancanadian Petroleum, Ltd. as Vice President - Land Department in
1974. He was the last surviving child of Fred and Katie Mugler, Oklahoma
Land Rush Pioneers. Bill was a graduate of the Oklahoma University, a
member of PHI KAPPA PSI Fraternity and played football with the Oklahoma
Sooners. Bill was a member of the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club,
as well as the Calgary Petroleum Club. Bill is the loving father of a
son, Fred of Calgary; two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and her husband
Jake Born of Langdon, Alberta, Kay and her husband Adrian Borovec of Red
Deer, Alberta; as well as four grandchildren, Elliott, Becky, Nick and
Nadine; and one great-grandson Clinton. Funeral Services will be held
at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel", (5008 Elbow
Drive S.W.), on Friday, November 28, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jim
Hillson of Riverview United Church officiating. If friends so desire,

MULDER - Rudolf Johan Erick passed away after a lengthy illness September
6, 1997 at the Rising Sun Long Term Care in Black Diamond. Born April
28, 1911 in The Hague, Holland. Rudy was the third of four sons of Adrianus
and Constance. Rudy grew up in the Dutch colony of Java where his father
was the governor and spent his early years travelling the world with his
family,. In 1925, when his father retired, the family immigrated to homestead
in Millarville in 1982. Rudy was a life member of Corinthian #22 Lodge
of Okotoks. Kanaskis held a life-long fascination for Rudy and he explored
the area with pack horses capturing the early years with numerous photos,
He continued to photograph the mountains, the community events and scenes
of Red Deer Lake, Millarville and much of the world as he travelled extensively
with his wife Selina,. Rudy delighted in showing slides on his giant screen,
raising palomino horses and Hereford cattle and in attending community
aurion sales, He si survived by his children: Constance Prentice (John),
Calmar, Alberta; Joan Chapman (George), Okotoks; Bonnie Herriman (Darren),
Millarville; and Douglas, Calgary. Six grandchildren: Heather, Maureen
and Fergus Prentice; Alexis Chapman; Tonja and Ryan Brown. His brother,
Fritho (lillias) Mulder, Calgary and cousin Katy Mulder, Holland. He was
predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Selina, on July 23, 1997; his brothers
Erick, 1955 (Jessie, 1981) and Bert, 1963 (Kathleen, 1991). Funeral Services
Thursday, September 11, 1997, 10:00 am at Christ Church, Millarville with
internment to follow in the church cemetery. Snodgrass Funeral Home, Okotoks,

MUNROE - Malcolm "Bud" passed away on June 18, 1997, at 58
years. Survived by his loving wife Lorraine Lavalley; his mother Jessie;
daughter Sheryl Ann Maylan, son-in-law Thomas Maylan, grandchildren, Travis,
Justin and Ashley; sisters, Marlene Charlton, Gail Hehr, Georgina Frank;
brothers, Ed and Mark. Predeceased by his brother Hugh. A Celebration
of Bud's life will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at MEMORIES FUNERAL CHAPEL,
12705 Lake Fraser Drive S.E., Calgary, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers,

MURISON - Mrs. Phyllis Louise (nee McMillen) passed away at her home
on September 30, 1997 at the age of 63 years.She is survived by her loving
husband Bob, Calgary; son Steve, Calgary; daughter and son-in-law, Barb
and Greg Lomow ofHerndon, Virginia; her sister Pat Hornecker, Nanton;
and eleven nieces and nephews. She received her early education atBanff
and Nanton. Graduated from the Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1955. Received
her ARCT from the RoyalConservatory of Music in 1973 and a B.A. from the

MURPHY - Esther Valentine (Val), passed away at the Foothills Hospital
on December 10, 1997 at the age of 75 years. Val will be lovingly remembered
by her husband Cecil; her twin sons, Rick and his wife Ruth, and Larry;
and her two dear friends, Audrey and Winnie. Val was loved and will be
missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend their gratitude
to Dr. Gary Dix and the staff of the Foothills I.C.U. for their care and

MURPHY - Shirley Ann Murphy, beloved wife of Mr. Jim Murphy of Calgary,
passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, following a brief but courageous
battle with cancer, on June 18, 1997 at the age of 51 years. Besides her
loving husband, Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kelly
and Mike Palmer of Port Alberni, BC; two grandchildren, Greggory and Jennifer.
She is also survived by her mother Pauline Cembal of Sault Ste Marie,
Ontario; one brother and three sisters, Michael, Paulette and Bonnie of
Sault Ste Marie, and Donna of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; as well as numerous
aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her father
Michael Cembal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian
Cancer Society (Second Floor, 215 - 12 Avenue S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2G

MURRAY - Janet Murray died peacefully in Edmonton, Alberta on July 16,
1997. Born in Vancouver on May 27, 1901. Janet was the oldest daughter
of Alexander Murray and Kate Skinner Murray, both Scottish immigrants
to Canada in the late 1800's. Janet was a telephone operator and supervisor
for the BC Telephone Company, Fairmont office, and later, when dial telephones
prevailed, worked for the Long Distance department. She retired more than
thirty-five years ago. Janet is survived by her sister Zelpha Wood; two
nieces, Kay Brennan of Calgary, Marnie Wood of Edmonton; and one nephew
Ian Wood of Richmond; as well as ten great-nieces and nephews and their
children, and many cousins and friends. Janet was known and loved for
her wonderful sense of humor, her energy and her love of fun. A special
thanks from the family is extended to the staff at the Waterford in West
Edmonton for the many kindnesses and good care given to Janet over the
past three years. A Memorial Service will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral
Home in Vancouver on Friday, July 25 at 1:00 p.m (7/21/97).
MURRAY - Dorothy Amelia (nee Strathern) passed away in Oliver, BC on
December 9, 1997. Born in Calgary on April 25, 1925, Dot was a devoted
wife, mother and grandmother who loved and cherished her family. She will
be sadly missed by all. Dot is survived by her husband of fifty-one years,
Edward "Ted" Murray; her two sons, Bradford (Bev) of Kelowna
and Ross (Diane) of Calgary; and her five grandchildren, Natalie, Austin,
Clark, Graham, and Garrett. She also leaves her sister Anne (Art) Sullivan
of Golden, CO; and her brothers, Joe (Betty) Strathern of Calgary and
George (Emily) Strathern of Winnipeg. A private Inurnment will be held
at Queen's Park Cemetery, Calgary. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes

MURRAY - Enid Mary Murray, beloved wife of Stanley Murray of Calgary,
passed away November 8, 1997 at the Beverly Centre at the age of 83 years.
Enid was born in Melville, Saskatchewan on October 20, 1914. She lived
with her family in Melville, Yorkton and Regina before moving to Calgary
in December 1955. Besides her husband of sixty years, Enid is survived
by her four children, Carol and her husband Al, David, Allen and his wife
Laurie, and Robert; six grandchildren, Donna and her husband Frank, Leigh
and his wife Carolyn, Diane, Robert, Kate and Scott; and five great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother George Coombs of Minnesota. Enid was
a long time member and past Matron of Bow Valley Chapter No. 5 of Eastern
Star. She was also a member of the Calgary Gyrettes. A gentle woman, Enid
possessed a quiet dignity which inspired those around her. This gracious
lady was well respected and admired by all who knew her and she will be
sadly missed. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY,
"Fish Creek Chapel", (14441 Bannister Road S.E.), on Wednesday,
November 12, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Donald C. MacMahon of
the United Church of Canada officiating. The family extends their heartfelt
thanks to the staff of the Beverly Centre for the care that Enid received
while a resident, and for the special care and attention that was given
