1997: Deaths - Pe
PEARCE - Sidney Henry passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on November
13, 1997 at the age of 78 years. Sid was the beloved husband of Meryl;
dear father of Gary, Carol, Brian and his wife Edith, and David and his
wife Debbie. He will be sadly missed by his granddaughter Allison Sydney.
Sid served during World War II with the R.C.A.F. and was a longtime employee
of Air Canada, retiring in 1974. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Westbourne Baptist Church, 823
- 64 Avenue N.W., Calgary, on Tuesday, November 18, 1997 at 2:00 p.m.

PEARSON - Ellen Agnes (Nellie), 1904 - 1997, died peacefully in Bashaw,
Alberta on October 18, 1997 at the age of 93. She was born to Janet and
Robert Cammidge on September 14, 1904 in Wiarton, Ontario and was the
last survivor of that family of seven children. She obtained her grade
nine education at Jarvis Bay School. She married John Pearson on February
20, 1924. With that union came the birth of four sons, Ronald, Glenn,
Stanley and Jack. She lived in around Bashaw all of her life, with a keen
sense of community and devotion to her church, St. Peter's Anglican. She
was an active member of the Eastern Star and was Matron of that organization,
as well as President of the Anglican Church Women's Organization. Left
to celebrate her life and remember her for being such a wonderful mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother are her three sons, Glenn (Kathy) of
Calgary, Stan (Faye) of Stettler, Jack (Laureen) of Edmonton; nine grandchildren
and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John
Holt Pearson in 1977 and her first son Ronald in 1943. Funeral Services
will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Bashaw, Alberta on Tuesday,
October 28, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Art Turnbull officiating.

PEARSON - Marion, beloved wife of Tony Pearson of Rockyford, passed away

PECKOVER - Mr. Ernest (Ernie) Edwin Peckover of Calgary, passed away
peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Wednesday, December 24, 1997.
Ernie was born March 19, 1928 in Thurcroft, Yorkshire, England. He served
in the Royal Air Force and was an active member of the Temple Lodge A.F.
and A.M., North Star Royal Arch, Cypress Preceptory, Scottish Rite, Al
Azhar Shrine Temple Chanters, the Rotary Club of Calgary South, and the
Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 264. Ernie is survived by his wife and
best friend Donna; together with his two daughters and sons-in-law, Heather
and Jon Becker, and Dorothy and Don Lawrence; and two granddaughters,
Meagan and Mandy. He is also survived by his sister Rosalie Parker of
Edmonton. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Sarah, two
brothers, Bill and George, and his sister Dorothy. Funeral Services will

PELLETIER - Randy Barry Pelletier passed away on Thursday, June 26, 1997
at the age of 32 years. Born January 23, 1965 in Dauphin, Manitoba, he
is survived by his adopted mother Alice Hoffman; mother Florence Pelletier;
all his loving brothers and sisters; as well as numerous aunts, uncles,
other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at the CALGARY

PENNER - Mrs. Margaret Penner (nee Braun) of Calgary, passed away to
be with her Lord, on Friday, July 4, 1997, at the Foothills Hospital after
a brief illness at the age of 91. Margaret was born on March 10, 1906
in Schoenau, Ukraine. She and her family immigrated to Canada in 1948.
A gracious host with a generous heart, she welcomed her family and friends
with an ever open door. Her faith, courage and strength of character have
left a lasting legacy. She will be dearly missed. She was the loving mother
of her children, Louise (Jacob) Froese, John (Katie) Penner, Agatha (Leonard)
Reimer and Margaret (Gerhard) Bartel, all of Calgary; a wonderful and
caring grandmother to her twenty-seven grandchildren and her twenty-four
great grandchildren. Margaret is also survived by her sister Helena Lepp
of Calgary; and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by
her husband John in 1940, her daughter Agatha Reimer in 1996 and her grandson

PENNEY - Jack Dennis Penney, beloved husband of Robina Penney of Calgary,
passed away peacefully at his residence on June 20, 1997 after a courageous
battle against cancer. Jack was a proud native Calgarian who retired from
Air Canada in 1991 following thirty-four years of service. In recent years,
he served as a volunteer with S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance and the Olympic
Hall of Fame. Besides his loving wife, Jack is survived by his family,
Thomas, Dennis and Kim and a very special granddaughter Kelsey. He is
also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and George of
Sylvan Lake; sisters-in-law, Gladys, Joan and Sophie; and Robina's family,
Dorothy and Larry Manning, and Thomas and Linda Collier; as well as his
loving extended family and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Eric,

PENNEY - Mr. Reginald (Reg) Penney, beloved husband of Mrs. Daisy Penney
of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 17, 1997 at the age
of 52 years. Reg was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He attended St. Francis
Xavier University at Antigonish, Nova Scotia receiving his B.A., then
moved to Montreal teaching history to Grade Ten high school students.
In 1980, he moved to Calgary and taught at Dr. E.P. Scarlett high school,
and then began substitute teaching. Reg enjoyed hockey, fishing and golf;
and he always had a good fishing story to tell. Besides his loving wife,
Reg is survived by two brothers, Al Penney of Ottawa, Ontario, Harvey
Penney of Sydney, Nova Scotia; two sisters, Evelyn Staples and her husband
Parker of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Germaine Heffernan and her husband Wayne
of Sydney, Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his parents. Funeral Services

PEPPER - Edward Peter "Pete" Pepper passed away at the Peter
Lougheed Centre on June 12, 1997 at the age of 74 years. He is survived
by his loving wife Emma; three children, Dorothy Saint, Charles Pepper
and Judy Loughlean; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two

PERMANN - Lucille Permann, beloved wife of Mr. Ben Permann of Calgary,
passed away at the Peter Lougheed on November 1, 1997, at the age of 67
years. She is the loving mother of Sandra (Doug) Saunders of Airdrie,
AB and Barry (Marilyn) Permann of Calgary. Her five grandchildren, Carly,
Jennifer, Lindsay, Brock and Dana. Lucille is also survived by her sister

PERRATT - Mr. Andrew (Andy) William Perratt, beloved husband of Chrystle
Perratt ofCalgary, passed away peacefully at the Agape Manor on December
23, 1997 at the age of 55years. Andy moved to Calgary in the 1960's and
worked in the auto parts business before movingon to Air Canada, where
he recently received his thirty year service pin. Besides his loving wifeChrystle,
Andy is survived by his two sons, Trevor Perratt of Calgary, and Terry
Stirler ofSurrey, B.C.; and his two daughters, Jodene Perratt and Zena
Burtniak, both of Calgary. He isalso survived by two sisters, Jacqui Wolffe

PERRI - Fedele Perri of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre
on Sunday, October 26, 1997 after a courageous battle with Leukemia, at
the age of 77 years. He was born on January 1, 1920, Montagnola, Cosenza,
Italy and wanting a better life for his family, he moved to Canada in
1951 after going through the hardship of being a POW and the death of
his first wife. He settled in Calgary in 1952 working for the CPR and
then the Calgary General Hospital. He retired to Kelowna in 1981 to enjoy
his passion for gardening creating an orchard and vegetable paradise.
However, his pride and joy was his family, which always came first. His
gregarious and loving nature meant that everyone he met became his friend.
He leaves behind his loving wife Annuziata; one daughter and two sons,
Frank and his wife Jean, Maria and her husband Giovanni Montefresco, and
Aurelio. He also cherished his five grandchildren, Sara, Farnca, Tony,
Denise and Jason; and one great-granddaughter Alyssa. He is also survived
by his brother Natale and his wife Filomena of Montagnola; four sisters-in-law
and one brother-in-law, Gemma and her husband Francesco Pellegrino, Carmine
and his wife Ida, all of Calgary, Lina and her husband Domenico Minardi
of Kelowna, Francesca and her husband Pietro Aiello of Fernie and Nina
and her husband Antonio Cassavia of Italy; as well as many nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Maria, father Francesco, sister
Rafella, and his first wife Francesca. Rest well, the pain and suffering

PERRY - Thomas Albert Perry of Calgary, passed away November 12, 1997
at the age of 39 years. He will be fondly remembered by his father and
stepmother, Robert and Gerri Perry; twin brother Rob Perry (Deb); and
brother Lloyd Perry (Melinda); eight nieces and nephews, and other relatives
and friends. Tom was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Perry in 1985.
Tom was born and raised in Calgary. After graduating from Forest Lawn
High School he worked for Safeway for sixteen years and for the past three
years has worked for CP Rail as a Conductor/Yard Foreman. He was an avid
fly-fisherman and sportsman, skilled at taxidermy and loved country and
western dancing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral

PERSAUD - Peter Fredrick Persaud, beloved husband of Lucille Persaud,
passed away at Vernon Fanning Centre on December 5, 1997 after a lengthy
illness at the age of 83 years. Peter was born in Guyana, South America
and immigrated to Canada in 1978. Besides his loving wife, Peter is survived
by his children, Ken and Teresa Persaud of Calgary and Fred and Gloria
Persaud of Toronto; as well as five grandchildren, Christine, Nicole,

PERSINGER - Warren William Persinger of Didsbury, Alberta, passed away
suddenly June 3, 1997 at the age of 41. Warren is survived by his loving
mother Audrey Persinger; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was
predeceased by his father Bill in 1963. Warren worked at construction
all his life and was presently employed at Beddos Construction. He was
very involved in sports as a coach or enthusiastic spectator. Warren had
a love for children and was known to many as Uncle Warren. He was always
involved with family functions and had a trunk load of games. Warren,
known as Weeval to many, will be sadly missed. Funeral Services will be

PERTICH - Ermenegildo (Gildo) Pertich, beloved husband of Ida of Calgary,
passed away at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital on November 9, 1997,
after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 77 years. Gildo was
born on July 26, 1920 In Grisignana, Italy, and immigrated to Canada in
July of 1957. He was married to Ida on June 12, 1954. Besides his loving
wife, Gildo is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Margaret
of Grande Prairie, Alberta; a daughter and son-in-law, Nivia and Brad
of Calgary; six grandchildren, Nicole, Paul, Alexie, Danielle, Lauren
and Corey. He is also survived by four sisters, Ida, Maria, Argelia, Fausta;
and a brother Cesare; and their families, all of Italy. Relatives and

PETAPIECE - Audrey Irene Petapiece passed away peacefully at Carewest
Glenmore Park on December 26, 1997 at the age of 84 years. Audrey was
born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on June 24, 1913, the daughter of Wesley
and Lottie (nee Wells) Norman. Following the death of her loving husband
J. Orland (Orlie) Petapiece in 1993, she moved from Burnaby, BC to Calgary
to be with her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter
Barbara and son-in-law Doug Baldwin; grandchildren, Cameron Baldwin and
Carolyn and her husband Douglas Armitage; great-grandson Riley Baldwin,
all of Calgary; her sister Len and her husband Eldon Holm of Seattle,
Washington; and sisters-in-law Alice Edwards of Portland, Oregon and Lois
Petapiece of Chico, California. The family wishes to acknowledge Audrey's

PETERS - Celia Marie Peters passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General
Hospital on Friday, November 28, 1997 at the age of 71 years. Celia was
a longtime resident of Calgary and a member of Branch No. 1 of the Royal
Canadian Legion. She was also an active member of the choir at Carter
Place where she resided. Celia will be sadly missed by all her friends.

PETERS - Mrs. Eva Muriel Peters of Calgary, passed away at the Glenmore
Park AuxiliaryHospital on Tuesday, December 30, 1997, at the age of 85
years. Eva was born February 25,1912, at the Devenish Apartments in Calgary.
She had attended St. Hilda's Private School. Evaenjoyed gardening and
being with people. Eva is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bertand
Sharon Peters of Calgary; and three grandsons, Todd, Darryl and Kevin.
She is also survivedby a brother and a sister-in-law, Richard and Peggy
Wallace of Calgary. Eva was predeceased byher husband Albert on May 7,

PETERS - Mr. Robert (Bob) Rankin Peters, beloved husband of Mrs. Sue
Peters of Calgary, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, October 28,
1997 at the age of 83 years. Bob was a renaissance man, artist and craftsman,
who lived life to the fullest and inspired the same in others. He shared
his own love of nature, especially the mountains, with his family and
was an avid gardener, hiker, skier and climber even through last summer.
Always gracious, he let his wife win at tennis and lead in dancing. His
career included farming, the CPR and instructing electronics at SAIT.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years; a daughter and
son-in-law, Linda and Ron Maskell of Dorset, England; a son and daughter-in-law,
Don and Gayle Peters of Calgary; five grandchildren, Stephen and Sheila
Peters, Kristi Peters, Rob Peters, Katy Peters, and Skye Peters; and two
great-grandchildren, Tyler and Karissa. He is also survived by a brother
and sister-in-law, Bill and Anne Peters of Creston, BC; as well as numerous
nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S
"Crowfoot Chapel" (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Monday, November
3, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. John Miller of Westminster United

PETTIE - Florence Virginia Pettie passed away peacefully at home on November
3, 1997 at the age of 79 years. Predeceased by her husband Norman in 1993,
she is survived by her daughter Barbara Gosset; granddaughter Brandee
Ford; great-grandchildren, Nikolas and Alexa Ford; a brother Buck Gray
(Marge); and sisters, Marjorie MacKeracher and Doris Howell; as well as
brothers-in-law, Don Pettie and Tom Pettie; and sisters-in-law, Margaret
Arscott and Helen Christie. Florence was also predeceased by a brother

PFEIFER - Elsie Christine passed away peacefully at Cedars Villa Extendicare
on June 27, 1997 at the age of 86 years. She was predeceased by her husband
Alfred, and two brothers, Walter and Alvin. Elsie is survived by a sister
Florence Bransell of Saskatoon; two sons, Melvyn (Sharon) and Glen (Judy);
as well as grandchildren, Greg (Steffany), Cheryl and Brad; stepchildren,
Brent, Shelley and Deborah; and five great-grandchildren. Elsie was born
at Dundurn, Saskatchewan, and farmed with her husband for approximately
forty years. After moving to Saskatoon in 1953, she became actively involved
in the life of Second Street United Church. Elsie was an accomplished
pianist and took great pleasure in classical music, as well as gardening
and needle work. Upon retiring to Calgary in 1975, she participated in
the activities of Centennial Presbyterian Church. Elsie is lovingly remembered
as a dear mother and a sincere friend. Special thank you to the doctors,
staff and care-workers at Cedars Villa Extendicare. A private Memorial

PHAN - Hong Hui Phan, beloved wife of Mr. Gia Nhan of Calgary, passed
away at the Rockyview General Hospital on November 4, 1997 at the age
of 30 years. Hong Hui was born February 24, 1967 in China. She is the
loving mother of a son Steven, and a daughter Louisa, both of Calgary.

PHILLIPS - Mrs. Louise Phillips of Calgary, passed away at the Peter
Lougheed Hospital on October 26, 1997 at the age of 72 years. She is the
loving mother of a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Sharon of Vancouver;
four daughters and two sons-in-law, Christine Phillips, Karen Ellithorpe
and Glen, Francine Hamilton and Brian, all of Calgary and Debbie Phillips
of Drayton Valley, Alberta; fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Jack Penman;
two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Betty Marzetti, all of Calgary,
Peter and Vivian Marzetti of Edmonton; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law,
Ivy and Paul Boychuk of Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Doug

PIERCEY - Charles William "Bill" Piercey, of Calgary, passed
away June 20, 1997 at the age of 73 years. Bill will be sadly missed by
his wife Elaine; their children Robert Piercey (Ilze), of Calgary, Carolyn
Paegel (Helge), of Calgary and Rosemarie Smaldon (Alan), of Durban, South
Africa; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister Doris Emberley
(Corbett), of Hamilton, Ont., and other relatives and friends. Bill was
predeceased by a son William Albert Piercey in 1967, and a sister Gladys
Woodfine and her husband Victor. Bill was proudly born and raised in Newfoundland.
At age sixteen he jointed the Navy and entered active service. After the
war, he moved to South Africa where he met and married Elaine. They began
raising their family in South Africa and moved to Calgary in 1966 where
they have resided since. Bill was a member of the American Brotherhood
of Carpenters and will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be
held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6560 Silver Springs
Crescent N.W., on Monday, June 30 at 7:00 p.m. with Bishop Robb Wolff

PITT - Dorothy Elizabeth Pitt, beloved wife of Red Pitt, of Calgary,
passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 4, 1997. She will be lovingly
remembered and dearly missed by her children, son Jim Pitt of Calgary;
daughters, Dianne (Leigh) Broadhurst of Cochrane, Cathy (Ross Clarke)
Pelletier of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and Shirley (Doug) Haidey, also
of Cochrane; as well, she was the loving grandmother to, Jeff (Anna) Pitt,
Deanne Pitt, Clint Pelletier, and Kari and Kelly Broadhurst. Dorothy is
also survived by one sister, Josephine Somoya of Las Vegas, Nevada and
numerous other relatives. She will live forever in all our hearts. Cremation,

PIVEC - Maria Pivec (Mary), (nee Biber), passed away at her home on Friday,
November 14, 1997, after a lengthy illness at the age of 75 years. Mary
was born on November 24, 1921 in Siegersdorf, Austria. She married Frank
Pivec in Graz, Austria. She followed Frank to Canada, arriving in August
of 1953. They raised a son Alfred and a daughter Erika. Mary and Frank
retired to Creston, British Columbia in 1979. Mary's husband Frank passed
away on October 30, 1986. Mary returned to Calgary in December of 1995,
where she resided until her passing. She had a great love for gardening
and the outdoors and will be deeply missed by her family. She is the loving
mother of a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Shirley and their son
Wayne of Priddis; a daughter and a son-in-law, Erika (Steve) Chapman and
their two sons, David and Chris of Calgary. Mary is also survived by a
sister Theresa Vantine of Arlington, Texas; four nieces, Margit Gspaltl
and Heidi Resch, both of Austria, Ingrid Malcolm of Arlington, Texas and
Jo McDonald of Tombstone, Arizona. She was predeceased by her husband
Frank, and by her parents, Josef and Aloisia Biber, as well as two sisters,
Josephine Klinger and Rosi Biber. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St.
Cecilia's Catholic Church (321 - 90 Avenue S.E.), on Wednesday, November
19, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Klaus Ludwig Hens, S.A.C. Celebrant.
