SAILER - Milton. Beloved husband of Doris, passed away at Kentville Hospital, Nova Scotia onDecember 9, 1997 at the age of 61 years. SALMON - Frederick George Arnott, beloved husband of Christina Salmon of Cochrane, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Thursday, July 17, 1997 at the age of 78 years. He leaves to mourn, his wife; two daughters, Anita of Victoria, B.C., and Verena of Sydney, Australia; as well as a stepson Rod of Airdrie, AB; and a stepdaughter Roxanne of Kelowna, B.C.; and nine grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters in Ottawa, Jean and Marjorie. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Robert. Sockeye spent thirty-five years in the Armed Forces retiring as a captain in the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1973. SANDERS - Mrs. Awdrie (Bamm) W. Sanders (nee Elkington) of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 1997 at the age of 68 years. Awdrie was born February 22, 1929 in Duncan, British Columbia. She received her education at Queen Margaret's Private School for girls. Awdrie resided in Duncan, B.C., Fernie, B.C., Galt, Ontario, Montreal and Calgary. She enjoyed her family, nature, and cooking good food. She is the loving mother of two sons and a daughter-in-law: Rob Sanders and Colleen McMillan of Vancouver; Gary Sanders of Calgary; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Don Alexander of Sundre, Alberta; and Pat and Cordell Nelson of Grande Prairie, Alberta. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Mark Sanders, Carrie Sanders, Jeff Alexander, Debbie Alexander and Aiden Nelson. Also surviving Awdrie are her father Gerald Elkington; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Margaret Elkington, William and Marion Elkington and Pete and Miriam Elkington. She was predeceased by her loving husband of forty-one years, Robert (Bob) L. Sanders. SARGENT - Mrs. Margaret Eveline Sargent, resident of the Beverly Centre for the past eight years, passed away on July 12, 1997, just five months before her 100th birthday. Margaret was a native Calgarian. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Peggy; daughter-in-law Irene; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Roy in 1983, as well as two sons, Ronald in 1988 and Donald in 1991, three sisters and a brother. SARGENT - Stuart Leonard Sargent, passed away suddenly on July 12, 1997 at the age of 33 years. SAUCIER - Liane, at the Mayfair Nursing Home on July 22, 1997 at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by her brother John J. Saucier, Q.C.; and sister Anna Maloney. She is survived by her nieces, Suzanne Colter of Edmonton, Mary (Dover) Saucier, and Carolyn Ray of Calgary; and many grandnieces and nephews. Liane was born December 17, 1907 in the Holy Cross Hospital, Calgary, the youngest of three children. She attended St. Mary's Separate School transferring to Holy Angels later, when it opened. She attended South Calgary High and took part in musical productions and the Glee Club. Liane attended the University of Alberta, majoring in French. Following university, she furthered her education at Garbutt Business College graduating with honours and winning a gold medal in typing. She then wrote a Civil Service examinations and accepted employment in Ottawa with the British Commonwealth Flying-Training Scheme where she became a Stenographic Pool Supervisor. Seven years later, Liane returned to Calgary to live with her mother and sister after the death of her father. She worked during this period for Imperial Oil Limited in the purchasing department. Seven years later, Liane worked as a teacher of Latin and French at Strathcona School for Girls on Vancouver Island. Following a breakdown, she was hospitalized in Alberta Hospital in Ponoka and Claresholm for fifteen years or more. Following hospitalization, Liane lived joyfully at the old Beverley Nursing Home in Calgary before taking up residence with her sister Anna. Following Anna's death, Liane lived alone with the help of a Homemaker who took her shopping and cleaned her house for her one day a week. She continued to play bridge with the 35th Avenue bridge club and enjoyed attending Al-Anon luncheons and meetings until shortly before her death. SAVAGE - Mr. George Alexander (Ab) Savage, beloved husband of Mrs. Helen Savage of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on June 27, 1997 at the age of 83 years. George was employed with Greyhound Bus from 1939 to 1979 until his retirement when he was general manager of safety and claims. He was a great contributor and volunteer for many years with the Catholic Church. He is the loving father of David and his wife Linda Savage, Michael and his wife Judy Savage, all of Calgary, Corinne and her husband Thomas Crockett of Kelowna; seven grandchildren, Dawn Marie, Ninette, Stacey, Tami, Amanda, Lisa and Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren, Jamie, Jessie and Madisonne. George was predeceased by his son George in 1967 and three sisters, Winnifred, Ruby and Ruth. SAWYER - Lester Lynn, beloved husband of Mrs. Angela Sawyer of Calgary, passed away suddenly on November 13, 1997 at the age of 51 years. Besides his loving wife Angie, Les is also survived by his children, Rebecca Sawyer and Ryan Sawyer, both of Calgary, Shawn Burrell of Winnipeg, and Les and Angie's little pal Sparky. He is also survived by his mother Ethel Sawyer, and brother Lorne (Grizz) Sawyer. Les was predeceased by his father Lester N. Sawyer. Les was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 424 of Edmonton for thirty-one years. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him in Canada and the United States. SAYERS - John Alexander Sayers, of Calgary, passed away October 20, 1997 at the age of 68 years after a very courageous battle with emphysema. He will be sadly missed by his beloved and loyal companion of over twenty-five years, Dorothy; his children, Buck, Peter, Archie and Linda; a brother Clarence; and other relatives and friends in Calgary and the Olds/Sundre area. John worked in the Olds/Sundre area as a farm labourer and oilfield construction worker before moving to Calgary in 1977. While in Calgary, John was employed in various labourer positions. He has worked with the city of Calgary Parks Department for the past ten to twelve years, until his illness forced him to retire a few short years ago. He was a very compassionate and caring person to his friends, sometimes going out of his own way to help them with financial problems or to share the fruits of his own labour. He will be sadly missed.
