Wesleyan Methodist Baptisms
These indexes have been transcribed in abbreviated form, for personal use, without verification, from microfilmed copies of the Central Methodist Baptismal Register. Since they are indexes, only part of the data recorded in the Register has been transcribed and since they have not been verified, there is a definite, but unknown, error level. They are being made available, as is, to assist individuals who are researching their family histories in these townships.

In every case, because the indexes contain transcription errors and are only partial transcriptions, users must refer to the microfilm copies of the Register for full and accurate data.

The Register is a record of baptisms in the period 1825-1910, predominantly in the years 1840-1873. During that period, Ministers were required to record baptisms in a book which, annually, was returned to the Conference to be copied into the Register. The Register may be viewed in microfilm format (four microfilm reels, plus index by township names) at the United Church of Canada Archives / Victoria University Archives. The microfilm reels and the index by township names may be obtained by interlibrary loan and by purchase from the Archives. The address of the Archives is:

United Church of Canada/Victoria University Archives

73 Queen's Park Crescent East, Victoria University,

     Toronto, Ontario M5S 1K7

The baptisms which have been transcribed are from the townships of Oxford-on-Rideau and South Gower and the village of Kemptville in Grenville county; from the townships of Beckwith, Montague and Ramsay in Lanark county; the townships of Marlborough, North Gower and Osgoode and the village of Richmond in Carleton county.

For those who wish access to all of the entries in the Central Methodist Baptismal Register, visit Bill Martin's genealogical website where Ida Reed's transcriptions may be viewed.
