June 2010 SLC Research Trip

Hosted by Ancestor Seekers, our own Bill Campbell says he has attended this event and gained an enormous amount of information. A team of professional genealogists is available to work with you for a week at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City. These professionals know the resources in the Library like the backs of their hands and can save a researcher many, many hours. View event details here.

Our cemeteries database is growing!

We've just added Burnsland Section G and St. Mary Pioneer (Calgary) to our collection, bringing our total number of records to almost 165,000!

AFHS Library

Our library is located at 712 - 16 Avenue NW in Calgary. Check out the Calendar for hours of operation (they can vary) or call the library at (403) 214-1447.

AFHS website is changing servers

Due to a surprise we have in store for you, we have found it necessary to move our website to a new server (same great host, though). As a result, you may find that some things are not working properly or as expected.

Your devoted webmaster will appreciate hearing of any problems that arise and she'll do her best to make 'em right. You can .

Upcoming Calgary events

At least two events of note are coming to Calgary this spring and summer:
  • Forensic Genealogy - Colleen Fitzpatrick, Ph.D., will share how you can use forensic science to retrieve that hard-to-find genealogical data. May 8, this is a FamilyRoots event.
  • Developing event, October 16 - mark it on your calendar; more details to follow. Fabulous speakers list shaping up; you won't want to miss this one!

OGS Conference

Online registration is now open for the most action-packed, star-studded Ontario Genealogical Society Conference ever. Whether you've been naughty or nice, now's the time to register for the Ontario Genealogical Society's Conference 2010 to be held in Toronto May 14-16.
  • Check out the content-rich program, packed with more sessions than ever before.
  • See leading experts speak for the very first time; or hear returning speakers with the very highest ratings received at Conference 2009.
  • Consider one of the pre-Conference programs.
  • Shop in the spacious 10,000-square-foot Marketplace just steps from the lecture rooms.
Convenient to airport, highways, GO and TTC, the Conference hotel offers an early-bird rate until January 8 - and it's the same rate as in 2004, the kind of comfort and joy we can really appreciate!
