While we're transitioning to the new template, some folks may like to follow along!

 

What's changed?

 

• For one thing, we've removed all census information.
• Easier navigation. All information has been organized into five major "buckets", which are linked across the top of each page.

 

What's to come?

 

• Continue moving content into the new template.
• Fix broken links, etc., while going through page-by-page.
• Delete old, outdated stuff that we don't need any more.

 

Updates

• 6 November 2010 - Added the November Breeze. More updates to come this weekend.
• 31 October 2010 - I wish I had more time to actually put content into the new template these days. As it is I'm treading water, but here's what I accomplished today:
  • Updated information on the Contact us page.
  • Added new UK resource here.
  • Updated a database page for the Memberships coordinator.
  • Corrected some personal information on this page, at the request of a site visitor.
  • Updated URL on the Aids page at the request of one of the listees (now archives.com).
  • Followed up on a whole whack of emails (does it ever end?).
  • Updated the homepage with new information.
• 30 October 2010 - Put some final editing touches on the "Getting started" pages and sent them off for review again.
• 24 October 2010 - Finished creating the "Getting started" pages; awaiting edits and/or approval to go live. Also caught up on a few emails.
• 21 October 2010 - Began work on the new "Getting started" pages. The new content will replace what's here.
• 17 October 2010 - Removed the FamilyRoots event from the homepage.
• 13 October 2010 - Updated an email address on the Contact us page.
  • Membership database updates and coding.
• 12 October 2010 - Updated an email address on the SIGS page.
• 11 October 2010 - Continuing in the game of "catch-up":
  • Changed the default year to 2011 in the Membership data input page for our Memberships coordinator.
  • Corrected a death date in our Cemeteries database.
  • Added Talk notes from last meeting's presentation (Christine Hayes on Newspapers in Genealogy).
  • Too many other little things to mention (or I forgot to write down). Lots o' emails!
• 9 October 2010 - Your webmaster's computer died and we've been out of commission for almost a week. Lots of catching up to do this weekend!
  • Updated homepage with next meeting's speaker and topic.
  • Updated Membership database access for key Board members who must see membership information in order to carry out their duties.
  • Updated Contacts page (removed Census Challenge, changed Celtic SIG contact).
  • Moved the PEI deaths page into the new template. Once I got rid of all the dead links, four pages became one!
  • Added the new 2010/2010 volume of Chinook to the Chinook page.
  • Added the October edition of The Breeze to its page.
• 27 September 2010 - Back after a nice vacataion visiting grandbabies in Vancouver.
  • Added Genealogy in Time link to our e-zines list on the Aids page.
  • Added a blurb to the homepage about our beginner genealogy course at U of C.
• 19 September 2010 - Catching up before I leave town for a week!
  • Added 3420 Burnsland Cemetery records to the database.
  • Added the Ontario SIG blurb to the SIGS page.
  • Moved the Brian W. Hutchison Scholarship page into the new template.
  • Added the Scholarship link to the Resources and the Sitemap pages.
• 15 September 2010 - Added new edition of The Breeze to its site.
• 12 September 2010 - Updated some of the Registry pages; put Alberta: Death records (Cemetery: C) into new template.
• 11 September 2010 - Gonna work on this until the wee hours, I'm thinking:
  • Added cemetery resource to the Nova Scotia Deaths page; put page into new template
  • Added Durham Region cemetery info to Ontario Cemetery (D-L) Records (did not have time to put it in the new template yet)
  • Some minor tweaks and updates at the request of various members
  • Moved Alberta: Other records page into the new template
• 2 September 2010 - Added a redirect page to the place where the old 1906 Census info used to live. Apparently there are still a few high-profile links out there pointing to it and we didn't want to alienate anyone.
• 1 September 2010 - Updated September meeting info on homepage and fixed a link.
  • Added the coming year's Computer SIG meetings to the Calendar.
• 28 August 2010 - Locked down access to the Membership database due to privacy concerns that were raised. Drafted a privacy statement and added it to the website. Sent a general announcement on all this to the Dist-Gen mailing list.
  • Finished putting the Queries pages into the new template.
  • Began work on the Publications site.
• 27 August 2010 - Caught up on a whole WHACK of emails, then:
  • Sent a test Queries request using the form on this page.
  • Planned to do more but then a whole whack more emails came in that needed immediate attention. More tomorrow!
• 26 August 2010 - Up til 3 a.m. fundraising for AFHS at the Stampede Casino! :)
• 25 August 2010 - Up til 3 a.m. fundraising for AFHS at the Stampede Casino! :)
• 22 August 2010 - Moved some of the Queries pages into the new template.
• 21 August 2010 - Fixed some broken links that Irene pointed out to me (thanks Irene!). Also:
  • Added more links to the Sitemap
  • Moved Dist-Gen page into new template
  • Added Dist-Gen link to a few more pages
  • Updated the Surname interests search page with links at the top
• 20 August 2010 - Added new Ontario WebGuide, Penny Allen, to the Contacts page
• 17 August 2010 - Uploaded the new membership application and added more links to it.
• 16 August 2010 - Fixed links too numerous to mention. Moved the Monthly program details page into the new template.
• 15 August 2010 - Put Alberta: Death Records (Cemeteries: A-B) into new template
• 14 August 2010 - Updated the Contacts page with new positions and email addresses. Also added a new Ontario resource to the homepage. This will get moved to the Ontario resources page after a few weeks.
• 13 August 2010 - After a bit of a vacation, I'm back at it. Today it was:
  • Fixed some broken links on a couple of pages
  • Added the 2010 Annual Report to the General information page
  • Added Local genealogical services to the Sitemap
  • Updated Metis SIG information at Xenia's request
  • Updated the homepage, bringing the upcoming FamilyRoots event to the top
• 25 July 2010 - Created and tested a 404 (not found) page for visitors using links to pages that no longer exist.
• 19 July 2010 - Moved Membership page to new directory (and updated links to same). Secured the member directory for member lists so that folks have to log in to see them.
• 17 July 2010 - Updated the Membership page and put it in the new template. Member lists are currently unavailable due to website update. Coming soon!
• 13 July 2010 - Today's list will grow, I'm sure:
  • corrected date from Sunday to Saturday on FamilyRoots page
  • added note on FamilyRoots page about sending in registration form
  • fixed spacing around blog button on homepage
  • corrected the map link on the Genealogy 101 announcement
  • corrected information and put AFHS led courses into the new template
• 11 July 2010 - Fixed a few broken links and moved this page into the new template: Alberta: Death Records (Cemeteries: K-M). Added Webmaster's notes.
• 10 July 2010 - Went live with new site. There is still a lot of work to do and a lot of pages that still need to go into the new template, but it's all downhill from here.
