AFHS Society Meeting
September 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm MDT
The AFHS Society Meeting is our regular meeting for all members, usually held on the second Monday of each month from September to June. Guests are welcome to attend!
Topic: Mind the Gap – Finding the Missing Child (what can be uncovered in cemetery records) presented by Grant Sikstrom
This meeting will be a hybrid Zoom meeting, held at Bow Cliff Seniors Centre (3375 Spruce Dr SW, Calgary) from 7 to 9 pm.
To attend by Zoom, please register here to receive the Zoom link.
This meeting will be recorded, and the video will be uploaded to the Meeting Handouts and Videos page of our website (members-only access) a few days after the meeting.
Description: This session will present a case study from an actual research problem. Beginning with a gap in the birth years of two children, a journey through various record types and search techniques reveals a lost child, a surprise finding in a cemetery, and new family relationships.
About our Presenter: Grant Sikstrom has been actively researching for the past two decades and has helped dozens of people, one on one, to research their family trees. He holds a Certificate in Family History Research from BYU Idaho. He has been the Director of the FamilySearch Centre in Airdrie for the past three years. For the past two years, he has led the Genealogy Group at the Airdrie Public Library. He is also a volunteer for FamilySearch International, engaged in record acquistion and preservation.
We welcome guests! If you are in the Calgary area, please come to Bow Cliff Seniors Centre. To attend by Zoom, please use the registration link above.
