AFHS Society Meeting
November 11 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm MST
The AFHS Society Meeting is our regular meeting for all members, usually held on the second Monday of each month from September to June. Guests are welcome to attend!
Topic: How to Use FamilySearch’s New Full-Text Search Feature presented by Amber Godfrey
Description: FamilySearch has a new beta test feature that offers full-text search of probate and land records from around the world. It is still being developed so is only available for a few select places and Canada is not included yet. Except Amber found out that they have included probate and land records for many Canadian provinces (with varying numbers and types of records in each place) and she has been able to discover hundreds of pages of probate documents for her maternal relatives in Nova Scotia. Join her at the November AFHS Society meeting for tips on searching the records and to see examples of what she has found.
About our Speaker: Amber Godfrey is a Library Technician, currently working for Calgary Board of Education as a casual Library Assistant. She worked for nearly two decades in public libraries in British Columbia before moving to Calgary in 2017. She is the editor of the AFHS Chinook Arch newsletter, volunteers at the AFHS library and has helped with Family History Coaching at CPL. Her love of family history started in childhood, listening to family stories shared by her parents and her grandmothers. After receiving a Family History Kit for Christmas when she was twelve, she started her own family history research journey.
This meeting will be a hybrid Zoom meeting, held at Bow Cliff Seniors Centre (3375 Spruce Dr SW, Calgary) from 7 to 9 pm.
