About Us

Ever since joining, I have experienced fun volunteer opportunities and met new people, many of them still my BEST FRIENDS today. The camaraderie is so warm and helpful! All AFHS members have amazing expertise and a sincere willingness to share and to help others. Never is a question a silly one; no one pretends to be a know-it-all or show an attitude of been there, done that.

Alberta Family History Society welcomes anyone interested in genealogy and family history! If you are particularly interested in the Calgary and southern Alberta region, we have substantial resources you’ll find nowhere else! (Not even on the internet!). Beyond that, we can help you research your roots in Canada and worldwide.

Have you hit a brick wall in your research, or want to meet other like-minded people? For more than 40 years, we have been helping people like you grow their family trees and discover the stories of their roots. Our library in northwest Calgary is open to the public. Come find out more from our welcoming volunteers!

We learn from each other in a variety of settings – at Society Meetings , at Special Interest Group meetings , at workshops and at biannual conferences. You will have lots of opportunities to share your strategies, struggles, successes and stories with others who appreciate the challenges of this hobby.

From occasional tasks to Board-level positions, there are lots of ways to get involved as a volunteer. See our Volunteer Opportunities page for some of the possibilities. Become involved! You will make life-long friends!

We welcome visitors, so please drop in at a meeting and introduce yourself. Come see how our services and programs fit your needs. We hope you will join us!
