Topic: British Home Children.
Between 1869 and 1948, over 100,00 children were sent to Canada from Great Britain as indentured farm labourers and domestic servants. Several settled as far west as Saskatchewan.
Over 10% of all Canadians are thought to be descendants of the British Home Children.
Presenter: Susan Hillman Brazeau BA MA-IS
Susan is the descendant of a British Home Child and the author of several articles and presentations on historical topics. Her Master’s Thesis “They Were But Children….” is published in the Journal of Integrated Studies.
She is retired from her instructor position at Lakeland College. As well, Susan is a 15 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of several museum, genealogy, and historical groups.
